DTBi and Funzi to usher in a new era of entrepreneurial learning and job skills development in Tanzania

Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi) and Funzi are excited to announce a partnership that will usher in a new era of entrepreneurial learning and job skills development in Tanzania to enhance the goals of the National Empowerment Council in the Prime Minister’s Office.

While Tanzania grows steadily at a 6-7% annual GDP growth rate, skill gaps among youth and young adults continues to be a major challenge for economic growth. Getting learning and skill development to everyone in traditional methods will be a daunting challenge. With over 70% mobile penetration in Tanzania, DTBi envisions mobile can play a big role on meeting the skills gaps problem of Tanzania.

DTBi partnership with Funzi will bring revolutionary mobile learning services on entrepreneurship and job skills to every Tanzanian via mobile phones. DTBi CEO Eng. George Mulamula said, “Leveraging the power of mobile is the shortest and quickest route to get empowering learning services to youth, young adults, women and the marginalized across Tanzania. Our partnership with Funzi brings to us the requisite expertise in designing the system and together with our ICT entrepreneurs under DTBi can deliver innovative mobile learning services at national scale.”

Designed by experts, content is based on the latest learning methods, all Funzi learning services are built around a revolutionary service design DNA, combining the development of knowledge and skills with social components of sharing. Funzi content is delivered like a pack of cards, with each service broken down into digestible sections that are easily understood. The Funzi application was launched in last quarter of 2014 and has been recently awarded the Best Social Entrepreneurship Tech Startup of Finland in the Nordic Startup Awards 2015.

“We are extremely happy to partner with DTBi and contribute to the growth of Tanzania. With our pedagogical approach and innovative technology assets, we are confident that users will engage with our service learning quickly to positively change their lives.” Tero Salonen, CEO, and co-Founder of Funzi.
