Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust and Funzi expanding opportunities for South African students

We are delighted to announce our collaboration with Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust (CRET) from South Africa. Our partnership will allow 108 students to learn critical new skills with Funzi courses Get That Job, Money 101, and Founder 101. The courses will prepare the students for applying for a job, improve their financial literacy, and encourage their aspirations to become entrepreneurs.

What is CRET, and why is it a perfect partner for Funzi?

Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust is a partner entity of Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation, which implements holistic bursary support and a youth and skills development model. Established in 1996, CRET has enabled over 500 young people to realise their education, skills development, and career dreams and aspirations.

Funzi and CRET are well-aligned in their purpose and what both organizations aim to achieve. CRET is dedicated to creating positive change in South Africa, while Funzi aspires to create a global impact. Both organizations strive to give deserving students opportunities to shine and build an armor of skills that can impact their life as well as spread positive change to their communities.

CRET supports deserving students so that they can attend university whilst also promoting alternative skills development routes in addition to university study. CRET aims to recruit candidates that would ordinarily be overlooked by other bursary programmes, which commonly seek out the top achievers only. The CRET programme goes beyond tuition support and extends to the overall well-being of students. Students are provided with academic support, career guidance, psycho-social support, soft skills training, and ongoing mentorship to ensure throughout success.

How do students benefit from the partnership?

Not only do the CRET students learn about the basics of money management, job hunting, or starting a business, they are also rewarded with any optional Funzi course after completing the first mandatory three courses. This will open a learning pathway for the students to follow their calling and strengthen skills that they believe they will need in their career path. It also gives students an opportunity to think outside the box and choose a learning topic that they may have previously overlooked or had financial restrictions to pursue their calling.

Funzi course selection focuses on critical 21st century soft skills that are transferable and help students advance in their careers regardless of their industry. They can opt to learn skills to become a better leader or communicator or learn to expand their creative thinking. These skills are not job-specific but can be nifty in any role or position.

The coordinators at CRET are predicting high motivation, and according to them, the students are excited to get started and bring mobile learning into the mix. We expect stellar results from these talented students and can’t wait to engage more learners through Cyril Ramaphosa Education Trust!
