Funzi’s global expansion gets acceleration from Facebook

Funzi is among the 2% of startups selected to Facebook Accelerator London’s first-ever EMEA program at LDN_LAB. From over 600 applicants, Facebook chose 13 startups to the program that demonstrate great progress in product, growth, and revenue. This cohort represents startups from ten countries across the region including the UK, Nigeria, India, and Finland, who are using pioneering technology to create a positive impact on the world.

“We are incredibly happy to see that many of the selected startups share our focus on enabling better lives in the Global South. Funzi is a mobile-first learning service because we wanted to use the most widely accessible technology, mobile phones, to reach and enable learning for everyone regardless of their economic or geographic background. Through our work, we hope to address the imbalanced access to quality learning that has led to societal issues, especially in the emerging markets.” - Funzi CXO and Co-founder Miemo Penttinen

Stepping into the new year, we will be launching our global B2C operations. Funzi will deliver life-changing learning courses from global leaders in education to users of mobile devices starting in South Africa and expanding worldwide. We trust that the insights and connections gained from this accelerator program will support the success of our launch. Our participation in the Facebook Accelerator also presents exciting opportunities for synergy as both organizations are working to empower people, build sustainable communities, and meaningfully improve lives.

The 12-week accelerator program leverages knowledge and experience from the best and brightest minds within Facebook to support talented startups in harnessing the power of technology to make a global difference. Startups gain access to mentorship, training and workshops, advice from partners including Founders Intelligence; a digital consultancy that supports organizations to reinvent their industries through technology, and Facebook Connectivity division. Through this program, participants become part of a vibrant community and create invaluable connections with other startups, operators, industry leaders, and government partners.
